This course will be taught by @petite_pretzel and @aimlessgallery and will run from 12:30 until 18:30 on both days.

Discover Shibari is Anatomie’s signature 4 part shibari progressive series, offering a modern and practical approach to rope bondage. The series will take you from complete beginner to proficient at full suspension over the duration of 4 weekend long courses. We offer a relaxed and non-dogmatic environment for you to discover shibari at your own pace.

Course 1 is aimed at complete beginners who want to familiarise themselves with the foundational techniques in shibari rope bondage. The course covers everything from safety and communication to the basics of rope handling and body manipulation, as well as the most fundamental ties used in this style of rope.

These include:
– The single column tie & double column tie
– Joining rope
– Basic frictioning
– Basic ties such as: “bunny ears”, the “futomomo” and the “Takate Kote” among others

Soft skills will also be covered throughout, including information about bottoming in rope, playing with rope (including navigating consent), and cultivating lasting and healthy ropey relationships.

Who teaches this class?

Petite Pretzel (she/ her) is a rope switch from New York. She has taught shibari in the UK at Anatomie Studio London, Oxford Rope Bight and Tangled Festival Derby; as well as abroad for Athens Shibari in Greece, Eurix (European Rope Exchange) in Germany and Shibari Camp in Sweden. She has performed live for Edinburgh Rope Showcase, Drawn to Rope London, Rabbithole Club, Riposte Queer Rave, Athens Shibari and Fox Badge. Her commercial rigging includes music videos, art gallery installations, fashion photography and full-length film. She lives in Bethnal Green with her cat, who loves ropes just as much as she does.

Amy (they/them) is a SE London based Artist/cowboy. An occasional latex designer, they have a love for the filthy whether it be people or practices. They have worked at Anatomie since the beginning of 2021. A rope switch, they find inspiration in the ways rope can be sexy, silly and saccharine. They own nonprofit kink collective Aimless Gallery, with its ethically sourced kink shop and inclusive kink nights, to support LGBTQIA and surrounding communities

Who can come to this class? Are there pre-requisites?

There are no prerequisites for this course. This class is open to all levels and complete beginners. No rope needed. No experience needed. Switching is allowed throughout the class (tying and being tied).

What should I bring and what do I wear?

We have ropes you can use during the class and we have a communal kitchenette, fridge and microwave. Tea and coffee are free but you should bring your food and snacks (we have plates and cutlery you can use). People usually wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire. We advise against loose fitting clothing and also jeans can sometimes feel a bit restrictive to move around in and difficult to tie on.
